Global5G.org hosted the two-part webinar series with 5GCAR on 01 October 2019 as the first example of supporting 5G PPP project results. The idea stems from the chair of the Verticals TF with a view to assessing R&I promises versus actual results at project end. Discussions in the Technology Board led to the webinar organisation with 5GCAR. It is hoped that the successful outcome of these webinars will continue in 5G PPP phase 3.

Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) services need a network with high reliability, speed, capacity and ultra-low latency, as well as advanced service features like network slicing. Drawing on the White Paper of the 5G PPP Automotive Working Group, Business Feasibility Study for V2X Deployment (Feb 2019), this webinar, held on 25 November 2019, dives into the ecosystem of stakeholders and their interrelations, investment and revenue models, and cost and profit analysis. The White Paper is given as a webinar hand-out.

This webinar explores the transformation of the manufacturing sector in the era of 5G characterised by the Industry 4.0 paradigm, where physical, cybernetic, and human resources interwork closely with each other, within "smart factories" and across other parts of the supply chain, monitored and controlled by the continuous flow and analysis of operational data. Automation is a key theme in the implementation of Industry 4.0 to reduce costs while improving quality, and productivity.

We are at the starting line of the transformation in the driving experience that connectivity can enable. The industry is making a concerted push towards increasing levels of autonomy in vehicle operation, and this will need levels of performance and reliability that today’s mobile networks cannot deliver. 5G networks will overcome these limitations by delivering higher capacity, lower latency, denser connectivity and service-level guarantees, while multi-stakeholder co-operation between Regulators, Public Sector, Automotive Manufacturers, Telecom stakeholders will play an essential role in accelerating the societal benefits of connected vehicles. 5G technology will support the next wave of smart grid features and efficiency, integrating many devices into the grid through low-cost connections, managing demand and load balance, helping to reduce electricity peaks and reduce energy costs. However, realising the 5G full potential for the energy sector will require many challenges and changes within the industry, including critical concerns like trust, control and liability, as well as a favourable policy and regulatory environment.
