Public Safety Communications Europe Forum, December 2019: post-event report
This global event with a conference and two workshops brought together public safety practitioners, policy makers, industry and research experts. The event took place in Paris and was hosted by the French Minister of Interior.
The goal was to explore the public-safety-related strategies developed by national and international authorities alongside technology solutions from research and industry experts.
Conference themes covered the use of drones for crisis management, space systems and applications for safety and security, broadband communications, and managing overload in situation awareness contexts.
Workshop 1
The first of two workshops focused on Article 110 of the European Electronic Communication Code (EEC), and the development and effective implementation of Public Warning Systems (PWS). The aim was to guide national authorities on PWS implementation and achieving compliance with Article 110. Examples of operational readiness, community preparedness and education came from Belgium, Iceland and Romania.
Workshop 2
The second workshop zoomed in on mobilising video for public protection and disaster relief (PPDR), looking at the opportunities and challenges of Mission-critical Video (MCVideo) Technology, which allows responders to share live images in critical situations but requires field -based collaboration.
Exhibition
The exhibition area was a platform for solution providers and projects to show their work and achievements, including small companies innovating in the space with next-generation mission-critical solutions, including 5G-ready solutions for tactical units in France and ground-breaking, multi-router mobile broadband technology deployed in first responder vehicles in Europe and globally to improve coverage and resilience.
Special thanks to PSCE and to Peter Clemons, Quixoticity for his insights on small firms.
